Monthly Brown Bags The quality brownbag sessions will continue into 2010 (4th
Thursday every month except for November and December on 3rd Thursday).
We haven’t come near our attendance goal of 100 per month, averaging
30 attendees. Although we have not met our attendance volume goal, we
have been meeting our “balanced participation” goals across
multiple dimensions: The brownbag “classroom” is provided by Winona State as part of the HealthForce Minnesota initiative, our team-mate in this effort to spread quality education throughout the region. Access the classroom at https://breeze5.metnet.edu/hcq with the slides posted each month on the HealthForce web site at http://www.healthforceminnesota.org/pages/Programs/courses.html. We are now planning the content for the brownbag sessions in 2010 and we encourage your interest in attending or perhaps being a presenter in your area of expertise! Contact Skip at skipvalusek@comcast.net.
The CPHQ exam preparatory class will be offered March 5-6, 2010, (Friday afternoon and all day Saturday). Nancy Claflin from the VA Medical Center in Phoenix is returning as our instructor (why change a winning game?). Location will be central Twin Cities but is still TBD. For further information contact skipvalusek@comcast.net. Ten (10) CPHQ continuing education credits will be given for the course. If there are any profits they will be applied to an MHQP “scholarship” for a member to attend the 2010 NAHQ National Conference, September 30 – October 3 in Nashville, Tennessee.
MN Council for Quality MHQP has formally joined the Minnesota Council for Quality as a sponsoring organization. As such, MHQP members are able to access all benefits as if they were members themselves of the MN Council for Quality. Who is the Minnesota Council for Quality? This organization is a non-profit corporation that advances improvement and performance excellence within organizations, individuals, and communities. The Council helps leaders identify strengths and improvement opportunities and builds networks that bring information, resources, knowledge, and best practices to organizations desiring to improve. The Council has not, to date, had a strong presence in health care so partnering with MHQP gives them an opportunity to enlarge their scope in the quality arena. To check out future Council quality continuing education, view their Improvement Events page.
Minnesota Alliance for Patient Safety (MAPS) MHQP recommends the 2007 patient safety educational activities sponsored by the Minnesota Alliance for Patient Safety. Information about these can be accessed through their Web site's Calender page.
Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI) ICSI sponsors local and national conferences on quality topics. One of the best is the ICSI Colloquium in May which attracts attendees from all over the world. Details about this year's conference can be accessed on the ICSI website: http://www.icsi.org/calendar/.
Education Event questions can be directed to Skip Valusek at skipvalusek@comcast.net.
